Last month I went down to Connecticut to assist with an event put on by Operation Shower. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Operation Shower is a non-profit organization that provides baby showers for military families in order to help ease the stress of deployment.
I had been following their work for about a year before I finally got a chance to volunteer at an event that was close to my home. I’m a stay-at-home mom, my husband is always around, I have family close by, and parenting is STILL difficult so I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to have a husband deployed and have no family around to help you. For this reason, I really wanted to get out and assist Operation Shower with their mission and give back to all of these women who have spouses fighting for our country. I’ve been meaning to share this with you for a couple weeks, but the iPhone images I took didn’t do justice to the event so I’m thrilled Sassy Mouth Photography allowed me to use their photos in my post!
The event I volunteered at was held at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut and was sponsored by a number of organizations, including; Carousel Designs, Alex and Ani, 4moms, Petunia Pickle Bottom, and Birdies for the Brave. Many additional organizations also donated products to the new moms. The boxes you see on the stage below are called “Shower-In-A-Box” and they are FULL of gifts for the mom’s-to-be.
The shower theme was “Red, White and Coo” (how cute!). Here are some images of the guest table set up. All of the printable decorations you see are courtesy of Hostess With The Mostess and the flowers are from FlowerMuse and were designed by Montville Florist.
Here are some close-ups of the FABULOUS dessert table! That amazing cake is from Erica OBrien Cake Design, the chocolates are from Anna Shea Chocolates, the candy is from Candy Warehouse, the popcorn is from Just Pop In!, and the cookies and Cherry Pie Caramels are from Firefly Confections. The caramels were AMAZING!!!
The shower was hosted by Hilaria Thomas Baldwin, the Mrs. of Mr. Alec Baldwin, and an ExtraTV correspondent (keep reading for a link to the television coverage!).
Here are some images of Hilaria hosting the event. In the first image she is with LeAnn Morrissey (right) and Amy Belle Isle (left). LeAnn is Founder and Chief Shower Officer for Operation Shower and Amy is the Chief Event Planner. If you’re interested in volunteering Amy is your girl!
As a volunteer, some of the jobs included assisting with a full-day of set-up before the shower, unpacking boxes, setting tables, decorating, running drinks, giving out prizes, clearing tables, rinsing dishes, helping the mom’s bring items out to their vehicles, breaking down the event, and packing up all of the supplies.
I can’t post a picture of every single gift the ladies received, but I can show you some of my favorites and some photos that show you just how appreciative they were! The red, white and blue bedding from Carousel Designs was my absolute favorite! Maybe because everything I buy for my son is red, white and blue ; )
Finally, here is an image of an adorable baby girl who could not wait to be born… she is one of the many reasons all of these people came together!
You can read more about this event on the Operation Shower website and view the ExtraTV footage here. If you’re interested in getting involved with Operation Shower, requesting a shower, or volunteering there is information available on their website.
