You’ve already been introduced to the concept behind our ‘Preppy Tie Shop’ birthday party so now let’s talk party set-up! When guests arrived at our house they were greeted with this 20×30 inch stretched canvas welcome sign that I created using one of the photos from Chase’s 2nd Birthday photo shoot. It was the perfect advertisement for a ‘shop’ themed party and now serves as a decoration in our media room. And how amazing is this photo from CapturedNH? Could he be any more adorable!?!
We had signs directing guests to the different party areas. This sign was made to look like one you would see in a shopping outlet. I ordered custom vinyl decals from Ten23Designs and adhered them to wooden boards that I bought at Michaels and painted navy blue.
Guest tables and chairs were rented to coordinate with the shop theme. I choose fruitwood garden style chairs for the sophisticated look and my mother made table runners out of navy polka dot fabric that was purchased from Fabric.com. The same fabric was used to make the bow tie that Chase is wearing in his birthday photos. Green hydrangeas filled the table centers.
The little ladies even joined in to direct guests into the party. While the games and seating area were set up outside; the food, drink, and shopping areas were all set up in the garage so the hot sun didn’t ruin the food. There was also a good chance of a spot thunderstorm so I didn’t want to take any chances. After all, it takes HOURS to set up a party like this and who wants it ruined with wind and rain!
At the entrance to the garage, there was a table set up with Chase’s ‘2nd Year’ Book for guests to sign. I started this photo book tradition at his 1st birthday so he would have a keepsake after each party. The ‘Year Book’ is simply a photo book from Shutterfly that contains photos of Chase and our family and friends throughout the last year.
The main dessert table contained a 24×36 inch poster that I had printed at Staples and mounted onto standard form board. The sign was hung with a safety pin from the Harper Blackout Panel curtains from Pottery Barn Kids. I’ll talk about all of the food and other items on the table in a later post.
There were three ‘shops’ also set up inside the garage. This first shop was the ‘Neck Tie’ shop and it was set up using the dresser from Chase’s bedroom. I got the display idea after visiting a Ralph Lauren retail store and we happened to already have the perfect piece of furniture! On the hutch shelves there were photos displayed from his birthday shoot, cupcakes, and a selection of children’s neck ties (which I will talk more about later).
The second shop that was set up was a ‘Hair Tie’ shop for the girls. The shop had hair bows and gumball necklaces that were all made by my super crafty mom.
Finally, the third shop that was set up in the garage was the ‘Bow Tie’ shop. I found mini mannequins at HomeGoods and displayed some of Chase’s shirts and ties on them and also had shopping bags that guests could use to hold all of their favors and treats!
Stay tuned for part 3 of this blog series where I’ll be talking about all of the party details!
